Bobby Holland (died 1990) was an American laborer who was killed by his boyfriend, John R. Curry in assisted suicide. Though once a popular boy in high school, Holland was a closeted gay man, who later contracted HIV, progressing into AIDS and causing Holland to lose hope; after failing to persuade his father to shoot him, Holland instead asked Curry to kill him, as Curry had assisted in the suicides of two other AIDS-infected gay men. Holland staged his home as a burglary, then had Curry shoot him in the back of the head.
Curry was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree conspiracy, first-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, promoting a suicide attempt, and second-degree reckless endangerment. Over the course of the trial, LGBT activists were adamant against the trial, with one even punching Executive ADA Benjamin Stone, who was the lead prosecutor.
Eventually, the jury ruled not guilty on all charges, save for reckless endangerment. However, as Curry was also diagnosed with AIDS, he did not live for long after the trial.
