Bob Hugin

Bob Hugin was an American businessman who ran for the US Senate in New Jersey as the Republican Party nominee in 2018. He lost after an uncommonly competitive election.

Biography[]

Bob Hugin was born in Union City, New Jersey, and he graduated from Princeton University in 1976, the first member of his family to attend college. Following Princeton, he served in the US Marine Corps from 1976 to 1983, and he later entered business. From 1985 to 1999, he worked as a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan & Co, and he came to Celgene Corporation in 1999 as Senior Vice President. He became Celgene's President and COO from 2006, and its CEO in June 2010. In 2013, he was rated as the best CEO in Biotech, with Celgene quickly rising to become a leading global biopharmaceutical company.

On 13 February 2018, Hugin announced his candidacy for the US Senate from the state of New Jersey, and he defeated Brian D. Goldberg in the Republican Party primary with 75% of the vote. On 6 November, he faced Democratic Party incumbent Bob Menendez in the general election, and he lost with 44.5% of the vote.
