Bloods and Crips
The Bloods are an African-American street gang which was formed in 1972 in Los Angeles, California. The gang was founded by Sylvester Scott, a student who was attacked by Crips leader Raymond Washington; it was formed as an alliance of small gangs (chief among them the Pirus) who resisted the Crips' takeover of the Los Angeles underworld during the 1970s. The Bloods grew into a large and powerful gang with 20,000 members by the 2010s. The gang had an open rivalry with the Crips, and both the Bloods and the Crips branched out across the United States. The Bloods were allied with the People Nation, Nortenos, Juggalos, and Latin Kings against the Crips, Folk Nation, and the Surenos.
