Blackfish (1729-1779) was a Shawnee war chief during the American Revolutionary War.
Biography[]
Blackfish was born in 1729 in Chillicothe, Ohio to the Shawnee tribe, and he became one of their chiefs. In 1774, he refused to acknowledge the loss of territory to Virginia during Lord Dunmore's War, and he was courted by Great Britain during the American Revolutionary War. Blackfish was encouraged and supplied by the British Army, and he raided settlements on the frontier in Kentucky. After Chief Cornstalk was killed by patriots in 1777, Blackfish raided Kentucky and captured Daniel Boone, and he adopted him. However, Boone escaped when he learned that Blackfish was besieging Boonesborough, and he was mortally wounded in the leg during the siege.
