
"Blackbeard" was the accountant of Pablo Escobar and the man who laundered his money during the late 1970s and early 1980s. His nickname came from the fact that he had a map to the locations of all of Escobar's buried money, making him similar to a pirate.

The man nicknamed "Blackbeard" was from Colombia, and he worked as an accountant. In 1979, he was hired by the drug baron Pablo Escobar to launder the money of his rising Medellin Cartel, which raked in $6,000,000 every day. When Escobar started burying money to hide his wealth, the accountant was given the "treasure map" to his money, hence his nickname. In 1984, he was arrested after the DEA raided Escobar's hacienda and found the address of Escobar's nondescript warehouse where Blackbeard stayed, and Blackbeard revealed the network that Escobar had built in a major victory for the DEA.
