"Black Ops" was short for black operations, covert operations by government agencies. In the case of Black Ops, they were top-tier operatives of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States trained to take part in various missions during the Cold War. Their involvement in world affairs was kept a secret due to the political uproar that would occur if the United States were to publicly perform subversive actions. The Black Ops team was first used during Operation Flashpoint in November 1963, when they sabotaged the Soviet Union's space program by destroying one of their rockets at the Baikonur Cosmodrome and killing several former Nazi scientists part of the Ascension project of the USSR. In addition, they were sent to hunt down and assassinate Colonel Nikita Dragovich, who was making plans for an attack against the United States with chemical weapons in "Project Nova". In 1968, they succeeded in assassinating him on the ship "Rusalka" in the Gulf of Mexico in an operation carried out in coordination with the Navy SEALs in one of their first major operations, and the Black Ops were instrumental in several other operations. They were involved in raids against the USSR in their lands as well as in the USA and in occupied Europe, at times having clashes near the Berlin Wall.

Tactics[]

Black Ops operated in squads of four on most occasions, although in serious situations such as the assault on the "Rusalka" they operated in larger groups. During clashes with the USSR's Spetsnaz, they would have large forces that could battle the Russians, but their large-scale operations such as their raid on Mount Yamantau or their raid in Kowloon, they operated in smaller groups. The Black Ops were equipped with standard-issue [[NATO] weapons such as the M-14, M-16, Enfield, and Famas, while they had semtex and frag grenades as well as flashbangs and stun grenades. The Black Ops also had tactical insertion markers and other special technologies that helped them in their operations against the Soviets.
