
Bismillah Khan Mohammadi (born 1961) was Chief of Staff of the Afghan National Army (ANA) from 2002 to 2010, Interior Minister of Afghanistan from 2010 to 2012, and Defense Minister from 2012.
Biography[]
Mohammadi was born in Panjshir Province in Afghanistan in 1961 to a Tajik family and fought for the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) communists in the Soviet-Afghan War. However, after the war's end, he joined the Northern Alliance resistance against the Taliban and their allied militias, and after the Northern Alliance took over the country in 2001 with aid from the United States, he became Chief-of-Staff of the Afghan National Army (ANA). He briefly served as Interior Minister from 2010 to 2012, but in 2012 he became the new Defense Minister.
