Bishop Unwan was a Northumbrian bishop of the Catholic Church. In 794, King Aethelred I of Northumbria demanded to know from his council why the northern invaders were tormenting his people, and Unwan said that the kingdom's learned and wise men claimed that God had sent the northmen to punish the Northumbrians for their many sins and transgressions, holding the Anglo-Saxons to terrible account for their lack of rectitude.
