The scene of the 21 November 1974 Birmingham pub bombings

The Birmingham pub bombings occurred on 21 November 1974 when bombs exploded at two pubs in central Birmingham, England, killing 21 people and injuring 182. It would not be until 2014 that an Provisional IRA leader would claim responsibility, although he admitted that the bombings went against everything that the IRA stood for. The bombings killed many civilians, not particularly targeting any armed forces, and they were the deadliest attack in the United Kingdom between World War II and the 7/7 attacks of 7 July 2005.
