Greek bireme

A bireme was an ancient oared warship with two superimposed rows of oars on each side. Invented well before the 6th century BC and used by the Phoenicians, Assyrians, and Greeks, the bireme was also utilized by the Romans for Julius Caesar's invasions of Britain. By the 13th century, the bireme was falling out of style due to the trireme's superior speed.
