Billy McComber

Billy McComber (died 1976) was Danny Greene's right-hand man in his "Celtic Club" gang of Cleveland's Irish Mob.

Biography[]

Billy McComber was born in the Collinwood neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio to a working-class Irish Catholic family, and he was friends with Danny Greene from a young age. The two washed cars and got into fights with Sicilian youths from school, and the two of them, along with Art Sneperger, became dock workers. Later, Sneperger and McComber became the first members of Greene's "Celtic Club" gang of the Irish Mob, and McComber remained Greene's right-hand man for years. In 1976, he was taken to the docks by a Cleveland crime family associate who told him that John T. Licavoli wanted a sitdown with him. McComber waited in the car as the associate answered a telephone call, but the associate instead left the scene, and a confused McComber frantically looked around before an adjacent cargo container exploded. The explosion also engulfed McComber's car, which fell into the harbor as the dock beneath it collapsed.
