William James Pascrell Jr. (25 January 1937-21 August 2024) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NJ 8) from 3 January 1997 to 3 January 2013 (succeeding William Martini and preceding Albio Sires) and from NJ 9 from 3 January 2013 to 21 August 2024, succeeding Steve Rothman and preceding Nellie Pou.
Biography[]
Bill Pascrell was born in Paterson, New Jersey in 1937, and he taught high school psychology in Paramus for 12 years before being hired as a professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He also served as President of the Paterson Board of Education and on the Board of Trustees of Passaic County Community College before serving in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1988 to 1997 and as Mayor of Paterson from 1990 to 1997. In 1997, he was elected to the US House of Representatives, and he supported the Iraq War, opposed negative stereotypes against Italian-Americans, and worked to modernize transportation in his state. He died in office in 2024 at the age of 87.
