William Oliver "Bill" Lipinski (22 December 1937-) was a member of the US House of Representatives from Illinois' 5th district (D) from 3 January 1983 to 3 January 1993, succeeding John G. Fary and preceding Dan Rostenkowski, and from Illinois' 3rd district from 3 January 1993 from 3 January 2005, succeeding Marty Russo and preceding Dan Lipinski.
Biography[]
William Lipinski was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1937 to a Polish-American family, and he attended Loras College in Iowa before becoming involved with Democratic Party politics in Chicago. In 1982, he was elected to the US House of Representatives from Illinois' 5th district, and his district was later merged iwth the 3rd district; he defeated his friend Marty Russo to continue representing his district. Lipinski was a conservative Blue Dog Democrat, strongly opposing abortion and favoring a right-wing foreign policy. After leaving the House in 2005, he opened a one-man lobbying firm, and his son Dan Lipinski would go on to continue his legacy as another Illinois congressman.
