Bill Harbison was a US Navy commander who was stationed on New Caledonia during World War II. In 1942, he and Captain George Brackett helped plan Operation Alligator, a reconnaissance operation in the Solomon Islands that helped pave the way for the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Guadalcanal campaign.
