Bill Cassidy

William Morgan "Bill" Cassidy (born 28 September 1957) was a member of the US Senate from Louisiana (R) from 3 January 2015, succeeding Mary Landrieu; he had previously served as a member of the US House of Representatives from Louisiana's 6th district from 3 January 2009 to 3 January 2015, succeeding Don Cazayoux and preceding Garret Graves.

Biography[]

William Morgan Cassidy was born in Highland Park, Illinois in 1957, and he grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from Louisiana State University to become a liver disease specialist, and he worked as a gastroenterologist. In 2006, he was elected to the Louisiana State Senate as a Republican Party member, having switched party affiliations in 2001; he had previously supported Democratic Party candidate Michael Dukakis' 1988 presidential campaign. In 2008, he was elected to the US House of Representatives, and he was elected to the US Senate in 2014. He supported the repeal of Obamacare and supported pro-gun legislation.
