Bihar is a state in northeastern India, with Patna serving as its capital. The state borders Uttar Pradesh to the west, Nepal to the north, West Bengal to the east, and Jharkand to the south. Bihar was the home of both the Mauryan Empire and Buddhism, but it has lagged behind in economic growth from the 1970s onwards. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party's rule invested in infrastructure, improved the health care facilities of the state, emphasized education, and reduced crime and corruption in the state. In 2011, Bihar had a population of 103,804,637 people.
