Big Tree (1845-1930) was a Kiowa war chief during the Indian Wars.
Biography[]
Big Tree was born to the Kiowa tribe on the Great Plains, and he fought in raids into Oklahoma and Texas against the United States. In 1870, he led a raid on Fort Sill and another raid that same year in Montague County, Texas, and on 18 May 1871 he led the raid on the Warren Wagon Train. He would be arrested several days later alongside Satanta, Satank, and Kicking Bird while drawing rations from Fort Sill after William T. Sherman heard Satanta boasting about a recent raid on a wagon train in Texas, and Big Tree and Satanta were both sent to Texas to stand trial. Big Tree would be sent to the Fort Sill reservation in 1878, and he died there in 1930.
