The Bible is a collection of sacred texts (scriptures) that Jews and Christians consider to be a product of divine inspiration and a record of the relationship between God and humans. With over 5,000,000,000 copies, it is the most influential and best-selling book of all time. The Bible was written from c. 1400 BC to 96 AD, covering a history from 4004 BC (when the Book of Genesis claims the world was created) to 96 AD (when the New Testament was finished). The Bible is divided between the Jewish Hebrew Bible (the Christian Old Testament) and the Christian New Testament, with the former being the scriptures of the Jewish faith, and the latter being the additional scriptures of Christianity. While the Old Testament is based on the history of the Judeo-Christian prophets, the New Testament is based on the history of Jesus and his disciples in the Common Era.
