
Bharmal (1498-27 January 1574) was Raja of Amber from 1 June 1548 to 27 January 1574, succeeding Askaran and preceding Bhagwant Das.
Biography[]
Bharmal was born in Amer, Kingdom of Amber (now Rajasthan, India) in 1498, the fourth son of Raja Prithviraj Singh I. Bharmal was enthroned by the nobles of Amber in 1548 after they deposed the usurper Askaran, and Bharmal and his wife Padmavati produced thirteen sons, including Bhagwant Das and Mariam-uz-Zamani. Seeking peace with the Mughals after a Muslim invasion in 1562, he had his daughter marry the Mughal emperor Akbar after she was initially betrothed to Rajkumar Ratan Singh of Ajabgarh. He was made commander of 5,000 Mughal cavalrymen after hte marriage, and he became known as one of Akbar's most loyal, courageous, and competent commanders. He died in 1574.
