Bhai Beant Singh (6 January 1959-31 October 1984) was a bodyguard of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi of India who assassinated her in 1984 after the Golden Temple siege.
Biography[]
Beant Singh was born on 6 January 1959 in Jaitu, Faridkot, Punjab, India to a Sikh family, and he was the nephew of Kehar Singh. He served in the elite forces of the Indian Army with Satwant Singh, and he was assigned to the security detail of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Singh was angered by her siege of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, and in response, he shot her three times in the waist with a pistol before shooting her with 30 bullets from his Sten gun. On 31 October 1984, Singh attempted to escape from prison and grabbed a commando's gun during interrogation, so he was shot dead by the soldiers.
