Bhagwant Das

Bhagwant Das (1527-4 December 1589) was the Raja of Amber from 25 January 1574 to 4 December 1589, succeeding Bharmal and preceding Man Singh I.

Biography[]

Bhagwant Das was born in 1527, the eldest son of Raja Bharmal and the brother of Mariam-uz-Zamani. In 1562, after his sister married the Mughal emperor Akbar, he was taken into the royal service by Akbar and led several military expeditions. He saved Akbar from an arrow at the Battle of Paronkh, and he was granted a mansab of 5,000 in 1585 in recognition of his service in Punjab, Kashmir, and Afghanistan. He also served as Governor of Kabul, and he defeated the Kashmiri king Yousuf Shah Chak. His daughter Man Bai married the future emperor Jahangir, and he died in 1589.
