Biography[]

Tutush was born in 1057, and was a son of Alp Arslan. Tutush was a Turkish Sunni Muslim from the House of Seljuk. Tutush was the half-brother of Malik Shah, and in 1076 he asked his brother for a realm, as he was only a prince of the Seljuk Empire. His brother arranged for him to marry Rabiya, a Nestorian Christian woman, as a gift in hopes of lowering Tutush's resentment of him. Tutush was hostile to him for most of his life, as he was a half-brother, and Tutush was jealous of him. In 1078 his brother delivered on his promise to give Prince Tutush a realm, and he gave him the Beylik of Yazd in present-day Iran. However, he was away from home at the time, leading troops in Kurdistan during his brother's war with the Byzantine Empire
