Bert Manfred Fernald (3 April 1858 – 23 August 1926) was Governor of Maine (R) from 6 January 1909 to 4 January 1911 (succeeding William T. Cobb and preceding Frederick W. Plaisted) and a US Senator from 12 September 1916 to 23 August 1926 (succeeding Edwin C. Burleigh and preceding Arthur R. Gould).
Biography[]
Bert Manfred Fernald was born in West Poland, Maine in 1858, and he taught school before entering a variety of businesses. He served in the Maine House of Representatives from 1896 to 1898 and in the State Senate from 1898 to 1902. Fernald went on to serve as Governor from 1909 to 1911 and in the US Senate from 1916 to 1926, and he died in office in 1926.
