Bernard I of Saxony (958-10 January 1011) was Duke of Saxony from 973 to 1011, succeeding Hermann Billung and preceding Bernard II of Saxony.
Biography[]
Bernard was born in 958, the son of Duke Hermann Billung of Saxony. He inherited the duchy in 973, and he fought the Danes in 974, 983, and 994 and supported Otto III against Henry the Wrangler. He became Marshal in 986, and, in 991 and 995, he joined Otto in his campaigns against the Slavs. He died in 1011.
