Bernard II of Saxony (996-30 January 1059) was Duke of Saxony from 1011 to 1059, succeeding Bernard I and preceding Ordulf.
Biography[]
Bernard was the son of Duke Bernard I of Saxony, and he expanded the powers of the Duke of Saxony and accompanied Holy Roman Emperor Henry II into Germany in 1018. From 1019 to 1020, he rebelled against Henry and gained the recognition of the tribal laws of Saxony. He then fought against the Obotrite leader Gottschalk, and he was also allied to the Danes. He died in 1059.
