The Berlin Soviet was a short-lived German socialist republic that existed in the German capital of Berlin from 3 to 26 October 1919. The soviet was proclaimed by revolutionary laborers loyal to the Communist Party of Germany, and Adelbert Behncke, a prominent KPD leader, served as its chairman. The soviet was able to raise 39,000 troops for its "Red Guards", but the soviet was crushed after a bloody battle that ended on 26 October 1919.
