Bergenfield is a borough of Bergen County, New Jersey, formed on 25 June 1894 from parts of Englewood and The Palisades. Bergenfield was named for its location in Bergen County (in turn named for the Dutch settler Hans Hansen Bergen, originally from Bergen, Norway), and it grew to have a population of 27,621 in 2016. Bergenfield is rated the second-safest place to live in the United States after the Massachusetts town of Franklin, and it is home to a diverse population. In 2010, 52.42% were white, 25.60% Asian (17% of which were Filipinos), 10.12% other races, 7.7% African-American, 3.8% multiracial, .31% Native American, and .05% Pacific islander.
