Bercthun War-Hedge

Bercthun War-Hedge (died 877) was an Order of the Ancients zealot who was active in 9th-century Wiltshire, England. Bercthun served as a messenger and factotum to Beneseck of Bath, and he liked to crush tortoises with his bare hands. In 877, he was ambushed by the Viking warrior Eivor Wolf-Kissed just outside Chippenham, and Eivor cut him down before stabbing him with his hidden blade. A dying Bercthun lamented how, while the Roman God hated "war-sweat", the Ancient Ones loved it; Eivor then told Bercthun that his sweat was the last "battle-milk" from his brow he would ever taste, and Bercthun told Eivor to choke on his bones.
