Berbers are an ethnic group from North Africa, and the main ethnic group in Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, Mali, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt. In the era of Barbarian Invasion (363-476), the Berbers were centered on the city of Tingi in Mauretania (present-day Morocco) and Dimmidi in Sahara.
History[]
The Berbers (or Libyans/Moors/Numidians) were the nomadic people that inhabited North Africa, descended from the "Iberomaurusian"(c.25/23,000 – c. 11,000 cal BP) and "capsian"(c. 8,000 – c. 2,700 BC) cultures native to North Africa. The Berber people traded camels in the Sahara and consumed dairy products due to their cattle bartering, and they lived in small camps.
In the late Roman Empire era, the Berbers began to become a major power, attacking Roman North Africa and fighting against the Goths' Kingdom of Baetica after 393. The Berbers expanded after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, conquering all of Spain from the Goths in 711 AD following the Battle of Transducine Promontories. They became "Moors", with their own culture, which still heavily influences Spain.
Eventually, the Berbers formed civilized empires, and today the Bedouin continue their cattle training and living in camps in the hot Sahara. They form the majority populations of the countries of North Africa and the northern parts of countries along the Sahara Desert like Mauritania, Mali, Niger, and Sudan. The Berbers could mix with the Arabs that came to North Africa at the time of the Arab conquests, while they could also mix with the Africans, giving the Berbers any skin color from light to very dark.
