Benjamin Wood Richards

Benjamin Wood Richards (12 November 1797 – 12 July 1851) was Mayor of Philadelphia (D) in 1829 (succeeding George M. Dallas and preceding William Milnor) and from 1830 to 1832 (succeeding Milnor and preceding John Swift).

Biography[]

Benjamin Wood Richards was born in Batsto, Burlington County, New Jersey on 12 November 1797, and he practiced law in Philadelphia for many years. He became active in the city's political scene and served as Mayor in 1829 and from 1830 to 1832. He resumed his law practice after leaving office, and he died in 1851.
