Benjamin Lambert (1847-) was the Chief of the New Orleans Police Department during the 1890s and 1900s.
Biography[]
Benjamin Lambert was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1847, and he served in the NOPD before rising to be its chief by the 1890s. Lambert presided over a police force which was rife with corruption; Lambert himself was in the pocket of Mafia boss Angelo Bronte, who warned him that the Van der Linde Gang was planning to rob the local trolley station. However, he hired Arthur Morgan to apprehend the Louisiana Raiders leader Lindsey Wofford, and he was surprised that Morgan was successful, paying him a reward of $100.
