Benjamin Chew Howard

Benjamin Chew Howard (5 November 1791-6 March 1872) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-MD 5) from 4 March 1829 to 3 March 1833 (succeeding John Barney and Peter Little and preceding Isaac McKim) and from MD-4 from 4 March 1835 to 3 March 1839 (succeeding James P. Heath and preceding James Carroll and Solomon Hillen). Born in Baltimore, he practiced law before serving as a brigadier-general during the War of 1812, on the Baltimore city council, in Congress, and as a gubernatorial candidate in 1861 (losing to the Unionist Augustus Bradford).
