Benjamin Barrett

Benjamin Barrett was an Anglo-Irish banker who worked as deputy manager of Butler's Bank under Harry Butler during the 1920s. In 1920, he was forced to comply with Inland Revenue agent Albert Saunders' audit into Butler's Bank as part of a British crackdown on the IRA's financial backers. He later helped General Ormonde Winter reveal Butler's acquaintance US Senator Daniel Shea's ties to the IRA after discovering that Shea was a cheap bootlegger, leading to Butler being jailed for a night and a vengeful IRA - blaming the Butlers for Shea's capture - forcing the Butlers to leave their home. Butler discovered that Barrett had informed on Winter, and he decided to fire Barrett, despite his 35 years of service at the bank.
