Benjamin Baker Moeur

Benjamin Baker Moeur (22 December 1869-16 March 1937) was the Democratic Governor of Arizona from 2 January 1933 to 4 January 1937, succeeding George W.P. Hunt and preceding Rawghlie Clement Stanford.

Biography[]

Benjamin Baker Moeur was born in Decherd, Tennessee in 1869, and he moved to Tempe, Arizona in 1896 after graduating from medical school. He represented Maricopa County at the Arizona Territory's 1910 constitutional convention, served on the Tempe School Board, Secretary of the Board of Education for Arizona State Teacher's College (Arizona State University) in Tempe, and served as Governor of Arizona from 1933 to 1937, during which time he militarily opposed the construction of Parker Dam to divert more water to the Los Angeles area. He died in Tempe in 1937.
