Benigno Cardenas Hernandez (14 February 1862 – 18 October 1954) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-NM) from 4 March 1915 to 3 March 1917 (succeeding William B. Walton and preceding Nestor Montoya) and from 4 March 1919 to 3 March 1921 (succeeding Harvey Fergusson and preceding William B. Walton).

Biography[]

Benigno Cardenas Hernandez was born in Taos, New Mexico Territory in 1862, and he worked as a store clerk before becoming a private merchant and a store owner in Lumberton. In 1904, he became county sheriff of Rio Arriba County, and he served as county treasurer and tax collector from 1908 to 1912. In 1914, he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Republican Party member, and he oversaw the building of infrastructure in the state. He also served as Govenror from 1919 to 1921, and he later retired to Los Angeles and died in 1954.
