
Benedict Joseph Semmes (1 November 1789-10 February 1863) was a member of the US House of Representatives (NR-MD 2) from 4 March 1829 to 3 March 1833, succeeding John Crompton Weems and preceding Richard Bennett Carmichael. Born in Charles County, Maryland, he practiced law in Prince George's County before serving in the state house from 1825 to 1828, in the state senate, in Congress, and in the House of Delegates from 1842 to 1843.
