Benedict Cockburn

Benedict Cockburn (1735-1759) was a British Royal Navy admiral. In 1757, he was given command of a fleet built at Yorktown, Virginia, and he led his fleet to victory over the French at the Action off Cap Fourchu in 1758 before taking part in the capture of Louisbourg. In 1759, he was killed at the Battle of Cape Saint George, a battle in which he lost no ships; he was succeeded by Geraud de Sechelles.
