Bebbanburg

Bamburgh Castle, formerly known as Bebbanburg, is a castle in Bamburgh, Northumberland, England. It was founded as the Britonnic fort of Din Guarie and served as the capital of Bernicia from 420 to 547, passing between the Britons and the Anglo-Saxons three times before coming under Anglo-Saxon control in 590. The fort was destroyed by the Vikings in 993, but the Normans later built a new castle on the site. After a failed revolt by the castle's ruler in 1095, it came under the ownership of the English monarch. It was restored during the Victorian era, and it currently belongs to the Armstrong family and is open to the public.
