Beauvais

Beauvais is a city in, and the capital of, the Oise department of Hauts-de-France, France. Known to the Romans as Caesaromagus (meaning "Caesar's field" in Gallo-Roman), it was later known as Bellovacum after the local Bellovaci Belgae tribe. It became a countship in the 9th century and then a bishopric in 1013, and it was besieged by the English in 1346 and 1433 during the Hundred Years' War and by Burgundy in 1472. Beauvais was extensively damaged during World War I and World War II, and much of the older part of the city was destroyed. In 2017, Beauvais had a population of 56,254 people.
