Beatrice I of Burgundy

Beatrice I of Burgundy (1143-15 November 1184) was Countess of Burgundy from 22 January 1148 to 15 November 1184, succeeding Renaud III of Burgundy and preceding Otto I of Burgundy.

Biography[]

Beatrice was born in 1143, the daughter of Renaud III of Burgundy and Agatha of Lorraine - she was born to the French Catholic House of d'Ivrea. She married Frederick Barbarossa on 9 June 1156, making her the Holy Roman Empress; she bore him Frederick V of Swabia, Henry VI of Germany, Frederick VI of Swabia, Otto I of Burgundy, Conrad II of Swabia, and Philip of Swabia. She died in 1184, six years before her husband.
