The Be'eri massacre was a massacre of Israeli citizens carried out by Palestinian Hamas terrorists at the southern Israeli town of Be'eri during the "Operation Al-Aqsa Flood" surprise offensive of October 2023. Hamas militants began firing rockets at the kibbutz at 6:30 AM, while the DFLP's National Resistance Brigades attacked the IDF base at Be'eri. 70 Palestinian militants entered the kibbutz on motorcycles and in vehicles, killing the security personnel at the entrance before going house-to-house and shooting or kidnapping their residents. Attackers blew up the rooms of residents' safe rooms and killed those inside. Up to 50 people were taken hostage from a Be'eri dining room, but Israeli security personnel were able to rescue several hostages. Hundreds more were taken back to Gaza to serve as human shields. Five Israeli Air Force special forces personnel were killed during fighting near the iconic yellow gate of the kibbutz, which lost 10% of its population and was completely destroyed.
