Bayside is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens. Bayside is located in the eastern section of Flushing, and it was developed by English colonists during the late 17th century. Urban sprawl led to the development of Bayside, and it saw an influx of theater and movie actors during the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century. Bayside became one of the safest and wealthiest neighborhoods of Queens, although it had an organized crime presence, specifically the American Mafia. In 2010, Bayside had a population of 43,808 people, with 46.9% being white, 37.3% Asian, 11.6% Hispanic, 2.6% African-American, and 1.6% other.
