The Battle of the Oasis was fought in March 1943 between Anglo-American Allied forces and Italo-German Axis forces during the Tunisia campaign of World War II.
During the Allied drive on Tunis, American and British forces pushed into an oasis village held by German and Italian soldiers. The Allied attack was aided by armor, and they quickly cleared a small village before forcing the Axis soldiers back into ancient Roman ruins and then into another village. There, German soldiers were exposed to volleys of Allied fire while charging across sand dunes, and the Allies secured the oasis village after brutal house-to-house fighting.
