The Battle of Veiros (early April 1811) was a battle of the Peninsular War that occurred when the Allied army of William Carr Beresford defeated a larger French army under Marshal Nicolas Soult in the countryside of Portugal. The Allied army used its artillery to bombard the French forces as they attempted to launch failed attacks on the smaller Allied army, and a decisive Allied attack on the French right flank in a flanking maneuver led to the rout of the French army. British and Portuguese cavalry chased down the fleeing French troops, and the French army was destroyed. The battle allowed for the British to easily secure Badajoz later that month with just 60 losses. Spanish resistance leader Ramon Noriega Garcia would join Beresford's army with his small guerrilla band after the victory at Veiros.
