The Battle of Tridany was fought on 18 October 1655 between the armies of Poland-Lithuania and Sweden amid the Deluge.
October 1655 saw the Swedes launch several failed offensives into Polish territory. King Carl Gustaf was captured at the Battle of Garbów near Lublin, Fabian von Wersen was taken prisoner at the Battle of Joniec near Warsaw, and General Gustav Horn was to fare little better as he advanced on Myadzelsk Castle in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Along the way, he was intercepted by Hetman Stefan Czarniecki and Voivode Fyodor Obukhovich's armies, soon to be joined by Lord Jerzy Wisniewski of Vydzy's mercenary band. In the ensuing battle, the much larger Polish army overwhelmed and destroyed the Swedes, massacring their musketeers and eventually overcoming their German mercenary pikemen after fierce resistance. Unlike the two other recently defeated Swedish commanders, Horn was able to escape his army's destruction.
