The Battle of Tor San Lorenzo occurred on 22 January 1944 when, during the Battle of Anzio, the British Army's 1st Infantry Division, The Liverpool Welsh, and the 2nd Special Service Brigade launched an amphibious assault on German positions near the Tor San Lorenzo in Lazio, Italy.
The initial assault was carried out by the British 2nd Infantry Brigade, which was reinforced with tanks, reconnaissance troops, artillery, engineers, and additional infantry; the rest of the 1st Infantry Division was held as a floating reserve to be committed as needed across the entire landing zone. Just after 2 AM on 22 January, the 2nd Brigade went ashore and advanced inland against little resistance, enabling the rest of the division to land a few hours later. However, the first German counterattacks began soon after, and several infantry companies attacked the 2nd Brigade before being repulsed. On 24 January, the 1st Infantry Division was relieved of its reserve duties, and it took part in the advance on Aprilia.
