The Battle of Sniatyn (20-26 June 1944) occurred when the Soviet Red Army launched an offensive against Axis forces in western Ukraine during Operation Bagration. The Hungarian VI Corps faced two tank divisions of the Red Army, and the Soviets were successful in overwhelming the Hungarian forces at Sniatyn. The battle allowed for the Red Army to continue its liberation of western Ukraine from the Axis Powers, and the Hungarians were forced to retreat towards their own territory.
