The Battle of Punta de los Llanos was fought between Argentine patriots and a caravan of Spanish Royalists from Peru on 27 November 1814.
The convoy was under the protection of General Mariano Osorio, and it was embarking on its return journey from La Rioja to Cuzco with its cargo of flax bundle, linen, grapes, olives, and other goods. Galeano Moretti's band of patriotic guerrillas ambushed the convoy as it traveled south of La Rioja in the llanos, and the guerrillas took up positions on a hilltop. The Royalist cavalry charged uphill, being mowed down by rebels as they slogged towards the action. The numerically inferior Spanish soldiers were overwhelmed with a loss of 1 killed and 1 wounded for the Argentines.
