The Battle of Portland Point was a major battle of the Anglo-Spanish War which was fought off the southern coast of Jamaica in 1722.

In one of the largest battles of the undeclared naval war between Spain and Great Britain, a clash between the Spanish Navy frigate Falcon Blanco Mayor and the Royal Navy frigate HMS Dove attracted the attention of other Spanish and British warships in the vicinity. Soon, the Spanish frigate El Sanson and the British brig HMS Escort began a gunnery duel of their own, and it was not long before a Spanish man-of-war and a British man-of-war, among other ships, joined the battle. One of the British fleet's two frigates was sunk during the battle, and, after some continued, spirited fighting, the two fleets eventually drew off, lest they risk heavier casualties.
