The Battle of Neuville occurred on 9 June 1944 when elements of the US 101st Airborne Division were sent to capture the town of Neuville in northern France's Normandy region from a German garrison. The town was crawling with Wehrmacht troops who had just seen combat on the Allied beachheads, and the Germans put up stiff resistance from the east with some rifle action. Two reinforced German regiments held the town for much of the day, but the fighting had been confined to the western sector by evening. By the end of the day, the town had been secured after heavy resistance.
